Armação Beach

Located next to the lighthouse of Ponta das Canas, Praia da Armação is very popular with sailors and lovers of other water sports. The best times to sail on this beach are from March to July and from October to December. With 350 meters in length, the strip of sand is home to an old and charming little church, the Capela Imaculada Conceição, and fishermen's boats.

This beach is a good option for all ages and has a great infrastructure: there are bars, tents and trees with large canopies that form shadows. At its left side, there is a trail leads to a sidewalk that also leads to a small pier and Praia do Pinto. The place was once known as "Armação das Baleias", since the whaling boats arrived there. In the past, the mammal's oil was widely used for street lighting and construction.
