Castelhanos Beach

On the east side, facing the open sea, Castelhanos is the largest beach in the archipelago, measuring approximately 1,700 meters long, excellent for surfing. It houses a caiçara community, restaurants, bars and rustic campsites, as well as an little island and two streams that flow into the sea. There is a viewpoint from which you have a panoramic view of the heart sharpe beach and also trails that lead to Praia Mansa and Praia Vermelha and to the waterfall and Praia do Gato. On full moon nights, the spectacle is the moon rising from the sea.

The path there itself is a real adventure. One of the best-seller by inbound tourism agencies, the tour offers a round trip by four-wheel drive car or a section by land and another by boat. The 15 km advanced level trail, which passes through the interior of the State Park, can also be done on foot, by bicycle or appropriate private vehicle. From 7am to 2pm, the road is open for the Perequê-Castelhanos flow, from 3pm to 6pm (7pm in summer time), only for the opposite direction. 24 private vehicles, 65 conventional jeeps and 60 motorcycles are permitted per day.
