Bonete Beach

Considered by the respected British newspaper The Guardian to be one of the ten most beautiful beaches in Brazil. With soft sand and clear sea waters, sometimes calm and sometimes choppy, it is inhabited by the largest traditional caiçara community in the county. Full of parasols, more than 600 meters long, its waves reach up to three meters, making the beach a surfer's paradise. Local traditions are preserved and people from the community command the hotels, hostels, campsites and bars that welcome tourists from different countries.

A great place to make trails, to practice snorkeling, to see turtles, fish and whales passing at the north, and to learn about caiçara customs and to hear stories of pirates and treasures. To go to Bonete it is necessary to follow a trail of approximately 12 km that starts from Ponta da Sepituba (south of the island) and crosses one of the most preserved and biodiversity-rich areas of the island. The journey of approximately five hours, with a high level of difficulty, passes through three beautiful watterfalls: Lage (4.6 km round trip), Areado and Saquinho. Another option is to go by boat or to hire the services of local residents, who transport you in canoes.
